Event details
An Artistic Intervention on Enforced Disappearance, Memory, and Civic Voice On August 1, 2019, Abubakar Idris (popularly known as Dadiyata) was returning to his home in Kaduna State. As he drove into his compound, armed men accosted him and forcefully abducted him in his own vehicle. Years later, his whereabouts remain unknown, and his unsolved disappearance stands as a chilling symbol of the vulnerability of free speech and dissent. Born out of a collective refusal to let his memory fade, Where is Dadiyata? began through the contributing texts of writers and artists. Today, it has grown into a multi-form artistic intervention spanning installation, publication, wearables, and public programming. Bringing together writing, graphic works, objects, clothing, and conversation, the project reflects on enforced disappearance, memory, absence, and the resilience of the civic voice. Exhibition Highlights Multi-Disciplinary Installations: An evocative convergence of visual art, graphic works, clothing, and objects that physicalize the void left by enforced disappearance. Exclusive Documentary Screening: An exclusive screening of an investigative documentary detailing the high cost of truth in Nigeria and examining the broader realities faced by civic voices. Public Programming & Dialogue: Interactive conversations designed to create community dialogue around human rights and freedom of expression.
