THE DIVORCE OF OCHOL AND LAWINO Written By Chinweizu, adapted from Okot p’Bitek’s Song of Lawino” & Song of Ocol. Directed by Segun Adefila A Dates and Events and Crown Troupe of Africa Production. About the Play THE DIVORCE OF OCHOL AND LAWINO dramatizes the clash of two worldviews inside one marriage. Adapted from the acclaimed poems Song of Lawino and Song of Ocol by Ugandan poet Okot p’Bitek, and scripted by renowned Nigerian historian Chinweizu, the play uses marriage as a powerful metaphor. It explores cultural dislocation in Africa — the tension between tradition and westernization, and what we gain or lose in the process. This play is a landmark African text, reimagined for the stage with urgency and relevance. Entertainment with Depth: Laced with humour, live music, and dance, it is both thought-provoking and highly engaging. The poems are studied across universities and theatre circles, giving us strong traction with students, culture advocates, and arts lovers in Lagos.
